Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce is deathly afraid of sharks.

We know this because last month he told his brother Travis on their podcast, “There’s nothing that makes me afraid more than sharks. Jaws screwed me up at a very young age.”

Unfortunately for Jason Kelce, while he was on vacation Maui with his wife (then girlfriend) Kylie in 2016 he spotted one while they were paddleboarding.

“I high-tailed in reverse,” Jason told Travis, who had never heard the story before. “I don’t ask questions. I’m not asking questions. This mother f—— just yelled ‘Shark!’ I am headed inland!”

Without Kylie.

“Kylie is like, ‘Where are you going, J?'” Jason continued. “I didn’t even say a word. I just kept going straight. I was in full panic mode.”

Needless to say, Jason admitted, “She was not happy about it.”

This week, Kylie Kelce got a chance on the podcast to share her side of the shark tale.

“In my defense, she was nowhere near the shark so I didn’t really leave her in a compromised…” Jason began the story, trying to preempt how bad he was about to look.

“What does nowhere near the shark mean?” an incredulous Travis Kelce then asked Jason.

“I was in the same water he was,” Kylie interjected.

“That’s what I’m saying,” Travis replied.

Jason then claims that if that shark had been close to Kylie he would have jumped in the water to save her.

She wasn’t buying it.

“I turn around and this man, it was the fastest I’ve ever seen this man move,” Kylie explained. “I was like, ‘Oh, look at him go.’ All I said to him was, ‘Are you done?’ and he was like, ‘Mmm hmm.'”

“That’s what you gave her?!” Travis replied with disbelief.

“Well, she was so far away from me it was hard to hear what she said,” Jason responded, trying to defend his actions. “She was so far away from the shark.”

“He said this as he was paddling past me,” Kylie Kelce jumped in, telling Travis, “he had to paddle past me to get to the shore. He had to paddle past me! And he didn’t say anything.”

She added, “Have you ever heard how you get away from a bear? You just have to be faster than the slowest person. I was his slowest person.”
