Kyree Walker decided to bypass college basketball as a high school graduate in 2020 to pursue a professional career. He was just caught lying about his second recruitment, now six years later.

The 25-year-old falsely claimed multiple suitors that simply are not interested.

I’d like to give Walker the benefit of the doubt and say he is just very confused. However, it seems like he intentionally fabricated the interest from legitimate college basketball contenders.

Who is Kyree Walker?

At 6-foot-4, 200 pounds, Walker ranked as the No. 4 overall player in the recruiting Class of 2020. He was considered a four- or five-star small forward prospect out of Hillcrest Prep and Moreau Catholic in California. Walker played against Anthony Edwards in high school. His recruiting class also included Cade Cunningham and Evan Mobley.

The Atlanta, Georgia-native initially committed to play college basketball at Arizona State over more than two dozen offers from schools all over the country. And then he changed his mind.

Walker decommitted from the Sun Devils and left Hillcrest Prep to pursue a professional career. He ultimately signed with the Capital City Go-Go of the NBA G League for the 2021-22 season. It lasted only one year. His professional career has been quite the whirlwind.

  • 2021-22: Capital City Go-Go, NBA G League
  • December 2022: Aias Evosmou, Greek A2 Basket League
  • June 2023: Scarborough Shooting Stars, Canadian Elite Basketball League
  • October 2023: Rio Grande Valley Vipers — WAIVED
  • January 2024: IHC Apes, Mongolian Basketball League
  • May 2024: Scarborough Shooting Stars (again)
  • June 2024: Ottawa BlackJacks, Canadian Elite Basketball League

Now, at 25 years old, Kyree Walker is going back to college. Rather, going to college for the first time. The high school basketball recruit from six years ago was granted one year of eligibility.

He even took a recruiting visit to Maryland in February.

Although it is unclear as to how he will be classified in terms of academic standing, Walker is going to turn 26 years old during his college basketball career. In the first month, even!

Is he lying about his college basketball suitors?

Walked competed at the first-ever transfer portal combine earlier this week. He looked pretty good.

As of right now, his commitment is set for May 22. It is not entirely clear which schools are in the mix.

Kyree Walker was asked about his list of suitors while at the combine. He mentioned BYU, West Virginia, Alabama State and Alabama A&M. “The list pretty much goes on.”

Walker lated doubled down. He also included LSU.

There is obviously a big drop off from programs like BYU and West Virginia and the other HBCUs. And, according to Jeff Goodman, the two big-name programs are not interested. Neither school is recruiting him. Kyree Walker is either deeply confused about what schools have interest or he lied.
