LeBron James is teaming up with former NBA shooting guard JJ Redick and his business partner Maverick Carter to start a podcast.

According to The Athletic, the show, titled “Mind the Game” is designed to be a “pure conversation” about basketball, with James saying that “everything doesn’t need to be designed for internet culture and clicks.”

The show will launch without any corporate partners or advertising sponsors.

“I’m really proud of what we’ve done to innovate in sports media. When I do a project, the only thing I think about is whether me and my friends would watch it. That is definitely the case with ‘Mind the Game.’ Everything doesn’t need to be designed for internet culture and clicks,” James told The Athletic.

“It’s meant to be a very free-flowing conversation about the sport and about the game,” Redick said. “If you look at it in a very simplistic way, it’s just about basketball.”

Redick is one of the biggest stars in the NBA media space as he makes regular appearances on ESPN’s First Take and also currently hosts The Old Man and the Three podcast. Furthermore, back in 2016, he became the first NBA player to do a weekly podcast during the season.

Earlier this year, Redick was also promoted to ESPN’s top broadcast team alongside Mike Breen and Doris Burke following the departure of Doc Rivers.

“I’d never listened to a podcast in my life prior to December,” Redick said back in 2016. “They approached me, and this is something I’m interested in post-career.”

LeBron is currently in his 21st season in the NBA and seems set to play for another couple of years.

As for Redick, he was drafted in 2006 by the Orlando Magic and spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Pelicans, and Dallas Maverick before retiring in 2021.
