Les Miles’ daughter has gone viral this weekend due to both her profession and an interesting nickname. She was seen reporting from the sidelines during a recent American Athletic Conference football matchup, leading to a major online reaction.

Not only were many viewers surprised to learn that she was a college football sideline reporter, but a number of followers were just finding out her childhood nickname.

Kathryn “Smacker” Miles was on the call for a matchup between ECU and Rice in Houston, TX this Saturday watching the Pirates and Owls battle it out in AAC play.

Smacker is the newest Miles to roam the sidelines in college football after seeing her father coach for Oklahoma State, LSU, and Kansas. Les Miles won 145 games during his head coaching career and appeared in two BCS title games. He won the 2007 national championship with the Tigers to become the second ever two-loss champ (both losses came in 3OT).

Now, Les’s daughter is following in the sports footsteps. She was spotted on the field this Saturday in Texas.

Les Miles’ daughter, Smacker, has a notable sports background.

The younger Miles spent four seasons at the University of Texas, winning four Big 12 championships as a member of the swimming and diving team. After graduating with her degree in journalism, she went into the broadcast field.

According to a D210 Sports bio, Smacker has previously held roles with the Dallas Cowboys and the Longhorn Network. She’s also been a sideline reporter for high school football games in Louisiana.

Now, she’s moving up to the college ranks.

Fans were surprised to learn of both her profession and nickname after seeing her on her latest call.

“Can we address that her name is Smacker?” one follower asked.

“This is very cool to see,” said another.

“Welp, we’re all old now,” someone else wrote after watching her father coach for nearly two decades.

There were some that were familiar with Smacker Miles, whether that be through college sports, high school sports, or her podcast.

“She was a good analyst for the AAC swimming championship this past year,” this fan commented.

For folks that hadn’t seen her before, they were begging to find out where that nickname came from.

Smacker is a childhood nickname that stuck.

Based on a New York Times article from 2008, Smacker was a childhood nickname that stuck.

“Kathryn, goes by the nickname Smacker because of her penchant for smacking her lips as a baby,” the piece reads. Not surprising coming from a family known for its eccentricities.

Les Miles, for example, is maybe best known for eating blades of grass while coaching his teams from the sidelines. His daughter is continuing the tradition of keeping things weird.

Keep an eye out for Smacker Miles throughout the remainder of the college football season.
