Lincoln Riley is taking part in his first Big Ten media day event, but his past continues to follow him through the transition. The USC head coach was asked about his skills on the grill while speaking to reporters.

Riley has been mercilessly ridiculed in the past by BBQ twitter, both during his time at Oklahoma and in Los Angeles. He doubled down on his abilities to man the grill Wednesday, blaming his dried-out meats on another shortcoming.

He was asked about a viral photo from Easter of 2021 that appeared to show an overcooked brisket being served to guests.

He was immediately mocked on social media.

Oklahoma fans later used that brisket as a knock on the head coach when he bolted for Los Angeles.

Despite the change of scenery, Lincoln Riley continued to fine tune his abilities at USC. Unfortunately, his next attempt to impress would fall flat, too!

In this instance, it was a cut of tuna that was butchered, again resulting in online mockery.

So, what’s the deal? Is he really as inept as BBQ experts believe or is there another reason for the continuous mishaps?

Lincoln Riley says it’s his photography that needs work.

When the topic was brought about at Big Ten media days, the head coach contested his perceived shortcomings on the grill. Instead, he blamed his skills behind the camera.

“I need to improve my photography skills,” he replied when asked about his struggles. “Not my barbeque skills.”

Riley insists that lighting is the reason for his meat looking overdone, but no one’s buying!

“Bro could take a picture of that brisket with the Hubble space telescope and it would look like canned tuna.”

“Never underestimate the power of denial.”

“Photoshop wouldn’t make that brisket look juicy.”

“I didn’t know cameras has a ‘Look as dry as possible’ setting.”

At this point, there’s only one way to prove that his skills are up to par. We’ll need another post to critique in order to see if there’s been any improvement.
