The Los Angeles Lakers continue to be a complete mess. Just when everyone thought that the franchise had its next head coach, Tyronn Lue, reports just surfaced that the two sides were at an impasse, leading many fans to wonder what might come next for the purple and gold.
Negotiations between the Los Angeles Lakers and Ty Lue have reached an impasse without a deal to make him the franchise’s next head coach, league sources tell ESPN.

This is where things get interesting, because, according to sources, the Los Angeles Lakers basically told Tyronn Lue that the job was his — as many expected they would — but that he needed to hire Jason Kidd to his coaching staff. That didn’t sit well with Lue, as it shouldn’t, considering Kidd interviewed for the head coaching position, too, which could cause an imbalance of power in the locker room. Based off of the suggestion about hiring Kidd as an assistant, Lue apparently hung up the phone.
Who knows if any of this is actually true, but given the dysfunction of the Lakers since LeBron James joined the team last summer, it sure makes you believe that it is. Speaking of James, who would have ever thought that he could have gone from Cleveland to Los Angeles and actually been in a more F’ed up situation? There’s now even whispers that the Los Angeles Lakers could at least listen to trade offers for him; which is insane to even think about.
Until the front office hires Magic Johnson’s replacement and the next head coach is in place, the Lakers are going to continue to be a mess, which isn’t such a great situation to be in given the fact this summer is, arguably, the most important in franchise history, where the team’s looking to bring in one or two prize free agents to surround LeBron with. Man, this whole thing just sounds like a Hollywood drama that basketball fans can’t get enough of.
