LSU Basketball Recruiting Loses Another Big Prospect, Is Complete Dumpster Fire Amidst Will Wade Fallout

Prior to March Madness, LSU fired head basketball coach Will Wade for cause amid “serious” allegations of NCAA violations. Now, a week later, the Tigers’ recruiting is left in complete disarray.

Almost immediately after the move was made to remove Wade, LSU suffered a decommitment from the No. 82 player in the Class of 2022. A few days later, a five-star forward who had already signed with the Tigers requested a release.

Losing two crucial Class of 2022 recruits is problematic for LSU. That is obviously not good.

And it’s only getting worse.

On Saturday morning, one of the top basketball recruits in the Class of 2023 has backed off his pledge to the Tigers. LSU’s recruiting class for this year is already crumbling and now the program’s class for next year is starting to unravel.

Marvel Allen, a five-star recruit, is considered the No. 4 point guard in the country and the No. 18 prospect overall. He stands 6-foot-4, 190 pounds and has 17 scholarship offers, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Ole Miss.

In his decommitment announcement, Allen attributed his decision to Wade’s firing. He said that he ad committed to LSU to play for Wade and Kevin Nickleberry, who took over as the interim head coach after Wade’s ousting and may not stay with the program after this year.

While losing three recruits in total may not seem like the worst thing ever, all three have decided to open up their recruitment in less than a week. It is like pulling the string on a t-shirt and then watching it come apart at the seams. Not good.
