The men’s and women’s basketball teams at LSU were fully prepared to attend the SEC media day on Tuesday. They were unable to do so because of inclement weather in the area— which was later revealed to be a dense fog in Baton Rouge.

No, it wasn’t a lie!

Even though the optics are suspicious, photos and videos from the capital city of Louisiana prove that the Tigers were unable to take off in time to attend the event. Both college basketball teams participated over video call instead of in person.

Inclement weather prevented LSU from attending SEC basketball media day.

The Southeastern Conference released the official student-athlete attendee listing and schedule for SEC Tipoff ’27 last week. The college basketball media days will take place on Tuesday, October 13 and Wednesday, October 14.

LSU was scheduled for Tuesday.

Men’s head coach Will Wade was supposed to speak from 9:35-9:50. His players, Abdi Bashir Jr. and Mo Dioubate, were supposed to speak right after him from 9:50-10:00. Women’s head coach was supposed to speak from 10:35-10:50. Her players, MiLaysia Fulwiley, ZaKiyah Johnson and Mikaylah Williams were supposed to speak right after her from 9:50-10:00.

There are no two programs in the SEC more interesting than these. Wade, who is building the majority of his roster through the judicial system, had only six players with meaningful minutes during an exhibition game last week due to eligibility issues. Mulkey had one of her top players, from Ukraine, leave the team because she didn’t want play alongside a Russian teammate.

The Tigers were the biggest draw of the back-to-back media days because have the most interesting storylines.

However, neither LSU team was able to attend the event in person. They couldn’t travel to Birmingham due to “inclement weather” even though the forecast across the southeast was hot and sunny. It seemed suspicious. Many people did not believe them.

The dense fog was real!

Although weather was not an issue in Alabama, or really anywhere else in SEC country, there was a legitimate fog problem in Baton Rouge on Tuesday morning. According to Myron Medcalf, LSU’s men’s and women’s basketball teams “sat at the airport for more than two hours before visibility was down to a ‘quarter mile’ due to dense fog that blocked their plane from taking off.” A private jet needs visibility of at least a half-mile to take off. The fog did not cooperate so the Tigers could not travel.

The dense fog advisory went into effect on early Tuesday morning and extended past 10:00 a.m.

This was at sunrise:

You could see the fog start to roll in as the sun started to rise.

It got even worse in the daylight.

Here is a look at the fog at the airport that stopped LSU from traveling:

You cannot see behind them. It’s all fog!

Wade did not make the trip to Birmingham but he answered all of the questions via video.

Mulkey too.

Say what you will about LSU men’s and women’s basketball but you cannot call them a liar. The “inclement weather” excuse stemmed from a thick fog in Baton Rouge that was, despite how it might look, very real.
