LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was forced to eat his words during a loss to Alabama on Saturday night. The passer claimed to play in the most daunting homefield environment in college football.

It was anything while facing the Crimson Tide!

Alabama rolled its SEC rival to the tune of a 42-13 blowout. That score was made a bit closer with a late touchdown on the team’s final drive.

The Tide controlled the game from the start, jumping out to a 21-6 halftime lead. They’d pour it on in the second half, causing LSU fans to trickle quickly out of Tiger Stadium by the third quarter.

Even a few staff members packed it in early having seen the writing on the wall.

With 1:47 left on the clock in the fourth quarter, the LSU coaches in the booth called it a night, at least that’s how it appeared from the X account @TigerDroppings. They posted a photo of what looked to be the LSU coaching booth, and it was completely empty with almost two minutes left in the game.

Death Valley is widely regarded as a tough place to play, especially at night. The SEC gifted LSU a primetime slot vs. Alabama to intensify that atmosphere in what was dubbed a de-facto CFP elimination game.

Garrett Nussmeier applauded his fanbase while shading a rival in the offseason, saying that no venue can compete with the homefield advantage the Tigers boast.

“It’s not even close. Kyle Field is loud, yes, I’ll give them that, but it’s not Death Valley.”

The stadium was silent on Saturday!

The comments have now aged poorly following back-to-back losses for the Tigers, one of which came on the road at Texas A&M and the other being the home blowout vs. Alabama.

LSU’s playoff hopes have now dwindled. Fans will have two more opportunities to prove Nussmeier right when they host Vanderbilt and Oklahoma at the end of the year.

They’ll have to stay in their seats throughout the entirety of the contest in order to do so!
