Luka Doncic has quickly developed into one of the top all-around players in the NBA. The Slovenian star averaged nearly a triple-double per game in the 2021-22 campaign, totaling 28.4 points, 9.1 boards, and 8.7 assists per night.

While the Mavs ultimately fell short of an NBA title to favorite Golden State, this appears to be the best roster the franchise has had since winning it all a decade ago in the days of Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd.

Kidd is now the head coach, and he’s been able to utilize Doncic’s talent to push the Mavericks deep into the playoffs for the first time since that 2011 title run. Prior to this season, Dallas had been ousted in the opening round six straight postseason appearances.

Now, they’ll enter the 2022 campaign as a legitimate championship threat, and Doncic is a big reason why.

He’s more than lived up to his billing as the No. 3 overall selection in the 2018 draft, but not everyone was always so confident in his skills.
