Mac Jones Appears To Indicate His Desire To Stay With Patriots Even Though He’s On The Way Out

Mac Jones may not be a member of the New England Patriots in 2024. However, it appears as though he would prefer to stay with the organization that drafted with the No. 15 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

According to Tom Pelissero, Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, the 25-year-old quarterback is unlikely to get his wish. New England holds the No. 3 overall pick in April and the team is expected to pursue one of this year’s quarterbacks to begin the Jerod Mayo era with fresh blood. This year’s draft class is deep, and nobody knows what Chicago is going to do with Caleb Williams, so there are a plethora of options at the position.

The list includes:

  • Caleb Williams (won’t be available at three)
  • Drake Maye
  • Jayden Daniels
  • Michael Penix Jr.
  • Bo Nix
  • J.J. McCarthy
  • Michael Pratt

Perhaps the Patriots will trade back and pick a signal-caller in the later portion of the first round. Perhaps they have their eyes on one of the top-three guys at the No. 3 spot.

Either way, that leaves Mac Jones on the outside looking in. Pelissero, Garafolo and Rapoport believe that he will “most likely end up elsewhere” for next season as a “trade candidate in the coming weeks.” They did not clarify what will happen with Bailey Zappe.

This report is the first official indication that Jones is probably going to be moved. There was plenty of speculation but nothing certain.

The new development comes just days after the rising fourth-year signal-caller liked a post on X that seemed to express his desire to stick things out with Mayo in New England.

Maybe Jones’ social media activity is not as it appears. Maybe it’s a PR thing.

However, he does not like a lot of posts on X, so it was a calculated decision.

Either way, it sounds like Jones will be on a different NFL team next season.
