The Orlando Magic are one of the worst teams in the NBA right now, mainly due to the fact they’re rebuilding the roster.
With a plethora of young prospects on the team, the front office made a surprising decision to release one of their top prospects.
According to Shams Charania, the Magic are officially releasing RJ Hampton from the team.

Before Hampton was drafted, he was being viewed as a legitimate prospect who was going to take the league by storm. Instead, his career has been a bit on the mediocre side.
Luckily for him, there is still plenty of time in his career to turn things around. However, he won’t be able to do that with the Magic.
Although he’s had a roller coaster of a career, the fanbase is still a bit bewildered by the move. Especially considering RJ Hampton is still young and is a rather decent player that is likely to do well wherever he lands.
Interesting, Magic don’t even dump that much cap space. Young guard could be useful anywhere. Wish him well.

The Magic have a ton of guards. So letting RJ Hampton go might be in his best interest.
Didn't they have like 6 guards at one point or something? Not sure if he ever got a legit chance there to be productive

At the end of the day, it’s not like the Magic are competitive this season. Additionally, they have plenty of guards on the roster.
Either way, look for Hampton to garner plenty of interest as a free agent.
