Manchester United have released a brief statement regarding Brazilian winger Antony following allegations of domestic violence by his ex-girlfriend.

While Antony was dropped from the Brazilian National Team as a result of the allegations, United hasn’t made the same decision. In fact, in a statement shared on Wednesday, the iconic Premier League club only said that they “acknowledge” the allegations.

“Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting inquiries. Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments,” the statement reads.

“As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact of these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse.”

For comparison, he is the statement released by the Brazilian Football Conference (CBF) regarding Antony and the allegations against him:

“Due to the facts that became public this Monday involving Manchester United player Antony, and which need to be investigated, and in order to safeguard the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian team, and the CBF, the organization informs that the athlete has been withdrawn from the Brazilian team.”

The allegations against Antony come after United recently decided to jettison Englishman Mason Greenwood, who was also accused of domestic violence. Prior to loaning him out to Getafe, however, the club considered reintegrating Greenwood into the squad.

Despite having one of the most expensive squads in the world, Man Utd currently sit at 11th place in the Premier League table after 2 wins and 2 draws.

After the international break this weekend, United will take on Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, September 16 at Old Trafford. Given the current form of the team and the current allegations swirling around Antony, the mood in the ground will be interesting, to say the least.

The 23-year-old Antony was acquired by Manchesetr United from Dutch club Ajax prior to the start of the 2022 season. Thus far, he’s scored just four Premier League goals in a United shirt.
