Marco Wilson will forever be remembered for his infamous shoe toss in a loss to LSU. The play, which was penalized, helped keep a Tigers drive alive late in a close game.

LSU would go on to win the game, effectively ending Florida’s chances of slipping into the College Football Playoff in that 2020 season. He was asked about the incident earlier this week, and he said there’s one thing he would change.

“I probably would’ve thrown it further,” Wilson said during an appearance on the Footballville podcast.

Not only does he not regret getting flagged, but he says he would’ve done it again in more dramatic fashion.

The play came on a crucial third down stop in the fourth quarter of action with the Gators and Tigers tied on the final week of the regular season. An LSU player was stopped short of the sticks, losing his footwear in the process.

Marco Wilson grabbed the shoe and proceeded to heave it down the field. Instead of sending the punt team onto the field, the LSU drive continued.

The Tigers would go on to kick a field goal in the final minute to win, 37-34.

Entering the game at 8-1, Florida had a path to a national championship.

Instead, they’d begin a three-game losing streak with subsequent defeats in the SEC Championship Game and Cotton Bowl. Fans were quick to comment on Wilson’s remark as they posted replies on social media.

One fan said, “Bro never learned,” while another asked, “So he would cost his team a win again?”

Others, however, didn’t believe Wilson deserved all of the blame.

This follower wrote, “I never understood why he was the only one attacked when the whole team and coaches struggled against a lesser LSU team that year.”

The Tigers finished just 5-5 that season after starting the year ranked in the top 10.

Agree with him or not, it’s clear Marco Wilson has no remorse for the shoe toss.
