On Monday afternoon, Marshall football made a big announcement in regard to its offensive staff. Clint Trickett, who once shared a smooch with Nick Saban’s daughter, is the new offensive coordinator for the Thundering Herd.

Trickett, who many college football (or just Netflix fans) may know from his time at East Mississippi Community College, has quickly risen through the coaching ranks. This is his first opportunity to oversee an offense by himself at just 30 years old.

Prior to his promotion, Trickett served as the team’s wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. In 2020, he was the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Florida Atlantic, after serving as the tight ends coach under Lane Kiffin from 2017 to 2019.

From 2015 to 2016, Trickett got his start in coaching. He began his career on the sideline at Scooba Tech and was the quarterbacks coach under Buddy Stephens.

Trickett knows a thing or two about an offense, having played quarterback on the Power 5 level himself. He was a three-star recruit out of high school and spent two years at Florida State before transferring to West Virginia.

He is a players coach now and was a fan favorite as a player.

However, before his football career even began, he was already a legend.

Prior to starting for the Mountaineers against Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide in 2014, Trickett revealed a story from his childhood. At six years old, Saban’s daughter Kristen was Trickett’s first kiss.

Saban caught wind of the story before the two teams played and Alabama went on to beat West Virginia by 10. Despite the score, he said that he has no beef with Trickett.

Win, lose or otherwise with the Herd, Trickett will go down in history as a folk hero.
