It’s been a whirlwind last two weeks for star shortstop Carlos Correa. The current free agent has agreed to terms with two different teams in the time frame.
First came his agreement with the San Francisco Giants. That deal was reported on December 13th and was for 13 years and $350 million.
But, just hours before his introductory press conference on Tuesday, the deal fell apart. It was reported that it was over concerns regarding the All-Star’s physical.
It's unclear what Giants objected to in the physical, but they had concerns about Correa's back early in free agency and some with the team were still concerned in recent days. Regardless, a pretty disastrous result. There's no way to replace Correa this late in free agency. https://t.co/JLdHvbeWP6

And, just a few hours later, he had signed a massive deal with the very rich New York Mets. The deal was worth $315 million over 12 years. And, it just added to the Superteam that Mets owner Steve Cohen is assembling in Queens.
But, on Saturday, news broke that put the entire deal in jeopardy.

Apparently, the concerns are over a surgically-repaired right ankle.
"The New York Mets, like the San Francisco Giants earlier in the week, have raised concerns about Carlos Correa’s surgically repaired lower right leg, potentially jeopardizing their 12-year, $315 million agreement with the star shortstop." https://t.co/l8YKxe7CBn

This would be a huge blow both to the New York Mets and to Carlos Correa if the deal falls through. But it sounds like the two sides are trying to work it out.
The Mets and Carlos Correa are "working through" a medical issue after his physical with the team apparently showed the same right leg concerns which nixed a deal with the Giants earlier in the week, a source confirmed to ESPN.https://t.co/pEtvmjyJVP

MLB writer Bob Nightengale thinks it is likely he still ends up with the Mets.
The most logical conclusion is that Correa remains with the #Mets, but with contract language included to protect NY if his past leg injury causes him to miss significant time.
The #Redsox did the same in 2018 with JD Martinez’s $110M deal when they had concerns with his foot.— Bob Nightengale (@BNightengale) December 24, 2022
Regardless, it seems like this saga is not over. It will be worth monitoring.
