Miami lost its first game of the 2024 college football season on the road at Georgia Tech on Saturday. Fans stormed onto the field at Bobby Dodd Stadium, which led to an angry encounter with Elijah Arroyo.

The Hurricanes’ tight end could not keep his cool and threw a phone.

Fourth-ranked Miami was undefeated at 9-0. Despite the ACC’s best effort to get its darling to the 10-win mark, it was the Yellow Jackets who proved victorious.

Quarterback Haynes King put his team on his back while playing through a pretty serious “upper body” injury. He completed all six of his pass attempts for 32 yards and a touchdown, but it was his legs that made the difference. The fifth-year senior led the team with 20 carries for 93 yards and a score.

Georgia Tech won 28-23.

Fans stormed onto the field as soon as the clock hit zero. They tore down the goalposts and ultimately threw them into the pool at the president’s mansion.

It was incredible scenes in Atlanta.

Players from the losing team are typically ushered off of the field as quickly as possible during a field storm. However, a few Hurricanes lingered behind on the sideline near the visitor’s tunnel.

Miami didn’t clear the field.

Elijah Arroyo was among the group of players who stayed back, which led to a tense altercation with a fan.

Ben Wun attended the game with some of his friends. One even roots for The U.

If his recap of the afternoon if any indication, he had a fantastic time.

Amidst all of the mayhem, Wun ran over to some of the losing players with his phone out and gave them a hard time with his camera in their faces. That did not go over well with Arroyo.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound redshirt junior ripped the phone out of Wun’s hand and threw it like a frisbee across the entire field. Of course, because the camera was recording, the whole thing was caught on video. Here is the result:

I don’t think anyone would disagree that Arroyo should not have engaged the Georgia Tech fan in such a manner. But with that being said, I don’t think anyone blames him for acting out after an opposing fan shoved a phone in his face. Wun shouldn’t have done that.

Both parties should get a stern reprimand for their respective actions and move on.

The POV video of the phone flying through the air is pure gold. That should be the only thing that comes from this awkward interaction. Regardless of how it reflects on Arroyo and Wun, it’s so funny.
