The Minnesota Twins Have Home Run Sausage And Manager Rocco Baldelli Has Concerns

The Minnesota Twins are 8-2 in their last 10 games and have been surging offensively thanks in large part to a newly introduced Home Run Sausauge.

Yes, you read that correctly.

The Twins have a Home Run Sausage that they keep in the dugout, and manager Rocco Baldelli has some serious concerns.

After a 6-11 start to the season, utility infielder Kyle Farmer put out a packaged summer sausage in the clubhouse.

“It was in my locker, and I didn’t want to eat it,” he said. “So I put it on the [clubhouse] table.”

But nobody ate the summer sausage.

Instead, hitting coach David Popkins placed it by the dugout bat rack. Now catcher Ryan Jeffers throws it at teammates following a big hit, and it’s even come along on road trips.

Minnesota has won seven straight games, with sweeps of the White Sox and Angels. The Twins scored five runs or more in each of those seven victories.

So, what’s Baldelli’s problem?

Well, we’ll let him explain.

“I’m slightly concerned as, I’m not even an adult, but slightly concerned as more of an adult than maybe some of the people in the other room, that the package is going to open up,” he said. “And the thing hasn’t been refrigerated in many days. And there’s no doubt that when that thing opens up, whoever’s touching it is in deep trouble. There’s no doubt in my mind that we are carrying around something that is very, very unhealthy to the human body.”

Now, summer sausages are smoked and preserved and can remain unrefrigerated until they’re opened. But they probably shouldn’t be exposed to heat.

Even the Twins broadcast had to do some quick research.

Whether the Home Run sausage it the reason for the hot streak or not, you don’t fix what isn’t broken. Our only question is if a replacement sausage will have the same level of success.
