Morgan Wallen’s foundation just donated $1.2 million to upgrade the baseball field named after him at Gibbs High School in Tennessee. The school named the field in his honor last year because the singer was a member of the baseball team that won a state championship in 2010 while he was a student at Gibbs.

This year, Morgan Wallen, through his foundation, is helping make the high school baseball field in Corryton, Tennessee, much, much better.

According to WATE News, the county commission announced that Wallen’s generous donation will be used to convert the Gibbs High School baseball field “into a versatile, state-of-the-art multi-use athletic field.” The school also plans to use the money to build a softball hitting and pitching facility.

The Knox County Commission has an item on its April agenda to approve a grant agreement with the Morgan Wallen Foundation. There is little doubt that they will pass the measure.

Morgan Wallen still has very close ties to his hometown

“Morgan played baseball at Gibbs during his time,” Gibbs principal Jason Webster wrote prior to the field being named in the star’s honor. “He’s part of the 2010 state championship team and if you go to his concerts, you hear him speak fondly of his time with Gibbs Baseball coach Davis. He speaks very fondly of his time with coach and you see him wearing a Gibbs Eagles baseball jersey a lot of times.

“He’s been positive promoter of Gibbs and has given back throughout his time after high school. We’re thankful for the things that he does, not just for Gibbs high school, but Knox County schools and the community at large. He’s a very giving person and we’re excited to do this for him.”

Morgan Wallen has given money from his foundation to numerous causes in his home community over the years. He donated over $140,000 to Gibbs Ruritan Park, $100,000 to the Jefferson County Baseball Park, and $35,000 to provide instruments for the high school band. He has also donated to Gibbs Youth Sports and the Jefferson City Little League.
