With the NFL season officially coming to an end on Sunday, football fans are now entering draft season.

This year, there is one big question on the minds of many fans.

Bryce Young seems like the pretty clear frontrunner to be the first pick in this year’s draft, but we still don’t know who it will be that actually selects him.

The Chicago Bears own the first pick in the draft, but just spent quite a bit of draft capital to take Justin Fields two years ago.

There are a few teams that appear to be strong candidates to try to trade up for that first pick to find their franchise quarterback.

The Indianapolis Colts desperately need a QB after 3 years of renting quarterbacks for a season and failing to make the playoffs in the last 2. With the 4th pick in the draft, they would likely be able to offer the most enticing trade package to the Bears.

The Las Vegas Raiders have left themselves with just Jarrett Stidham at QB after releasing Derek Carr. They can offer the Bears the 7th pick in a deal.

The Carolina Panthers have had a rough few years at QB where they have started Kyle Allen, Will Grier, Teddy Bridgewater, Sam Darnold, PJ Walker, Cam Newton, and Baker Mayfield. New head coach Frank Reich will need a franchise QB to avoid the same struggles as Matt Rhule. They pick 9th this year.

While all of those teams are strong options to make a move up to pick 1, it seems there is a belief that it could actually be the Bears making that pick and taking Bryce Young.

According to NFL reporter Jason La Canfora, there were multiple GMs who came away from the Senior Bowl believing the Bears will be trading Justin Fields instead of pick 1.

It’s an idea that has been thrown around since the Bears learned they would be picking 1st overall, but it would still be very surprising to see the Bears actually trade Fields.

The Chicago Bears have been terrible in the 2 years since they drafted Fields. There’s no debating that. However, it’s tough to blame Fields for that.

This past year, the Bears were the worst defense in football, allowing 27.2 points per game.

The offense wasn’t good, but it also wasn’t nearly as bad as the defense. The Bears offense actually managed to average more points per game than 9 teams this season despite Fields throwing to a disappointing group of pass catchers and Nathan Peterman and Trevor Siemian each starting a game.

With the haul of picks they’d likely get for pick 1, they could start to build a competent roster around Fields to see what their ceiling might actually be with him.

Maybe the Chicago Bears truly don’t believe that Fields is their franchise QB, but it would be really surprising to see them give up on him already after they have failed to really give him the chance to succeed in his first two seasons.
