The Las Vegas Aces took down the Dallas Wings in WNBA action over the weekend. That matchup pit a pair of partners against one another on the court.

DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith are in a romantic relationship. They were rivals in their most recent matchup.

The Aces won the matchup in blowout fashion, 106-80. Both players showed out with double-digit scoring nights.

While the contest wasn’t all that close, the drama on the floor was at a high. Carrington and Smith were the reason!

Who are DiJonai Carrington and NaLyssa Smith?

The couple began dating in 2020 as teammates on the Baylor Bears women’s basketball team. Carrington was selected in the second round of the 2021 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun.

Smith, meanwhile, would go on to become the No. 2 overall pick in the ’22 WNBA Draft with the Indiana Fever.

Despite being picked by different teams, they opted to stay together. Their relationship has been a talking point for a variety of reasons throughout their professional careers.

While there were rumors of a brief split in 2023, their romance prevailed. They were then reunited ahead of the 2025 season.

Both players started the season on the Dallas Wings.

That reunion came after DiJonai Carrington begged the Fever to “free” NaLyssa Smith in 2024. She believed Smith needed a fresh start from outside the shadow of Carrington’s nemesis Caitlin Clark.

The two got their wish as they were both dealt to the Wings. Unfortunately, that partnership would be short-lived.

In a surprise trade, Dallas moved Smith to Las Vegas midseason. The pair squared off for the first time as foes in the ’25 campaign over the weekend. Though it was the second matchup between the Wings and Aces since the trade, Carrington did not play in the first battle.

She was on the court for Game 2. It made for fireworks and a hilarious back-and-forth on social media.

DiJonai Carrington accused NaLyssa Smith of flopping.

The two star players had a few notable moments on the court Sunday. In one instance, Smith was seen rejecting a shot from Carrington at the rim.

Carrington attempted to return the favor with a block on the other end. She failed, however, in that attempt.

Carrington went for the ball. She followed through on Smith’s elbow. It’s a situation that she’s become quite familiar with, and one that’s led to criticism in the past.

It was a clear foul to most in attendance, including the officiating crew. Still, the Wings guard defended her efforts on social media after the fact.

NaLyssa Smith hit DiJonai Carrington with the video proof after watching her girlfriend stand firm on her actions.

Carrington was unapologetic on the hack.

In fact, she believed her better half was flopping throughout the contest. At one point in the game, she was seen mocking Smith as she lined up at the charity stripe.

Smith wasted no time in putting Carrington on blast with that video evidence. She’d get the last laugh with the 26-point win.

At 13-13 on the season, the Aces continue to battle for a WNBA Playoff bid. The Wings, however, are in the cellar of the Western Conference standings at 7-19.
