WNBA fans were treated to something unexpected on Sunday morning when, out of nowhere, DiJonai Carrington claimed on social media that her ex-girlfriend, NaLyssa Smith, cheated on her with multiple WNBA players prior to their breakup last year.

“Since mfs wanna be funny today ima be hilarious!” the Chicago Sky guard wrote. “yes , nalyssa cheated on me with Deja Kelly and Aaliyah Nye +++ many more.”

DiJonai Carrington never clarified why she decided to share such random news on a Sunday morning. She and NaLyssa Smith began dating back in 2020 while they were both at Baylor, and they teamed up again briefly in 2025 with the WNBA’s Dallas Wings.

NaLyssa Smith responds to DiJonai Carrington’s accusations

A few hours later, Smith responded to Carrington accusing her of cheating with several WNBA players while they were a couple during a Twitch livestream.

“Whether she cheated on me and I cheated on her, why are we bringing that to the internet a year later when nobody did anything to anybody? Whether she cheated on me or I cheated on her, that has nothing to do with anybody,” Smith said. “Like what? That don’t even make sense. And to bring it to the internet a year later, is crazy. Just for fun? That’s ridiculous, especially when you’re in a happy healthy relationship. I would never in my life do that to nobody if I was in a happy healthy relationship.

“Then, to bring up folks name that has nothing to do with anything. These folks is minding their business. These folks woke up to this s–t on a random Sunday night of these type of allegations,” Smith continued. “I think that’s very weird.”

What led to Carrington’s random accusation?

NaLyssa Smith then attempted to explain what could have possibly led to DiJonai Carrington making such a post on social media.

“Mind you, I have seen this young lady multiple times. This is not the first time that we have seen each other,” Smith continued. “Not the first time we’ve seen each other. We’ve crossed paths. We’ve seen each other the night before. We’ve seen each other, played against each other. Like, there’s no static. There was no static. But I guess the liquor, the cameras, her crowd, I guess she got some type of, somebody boosted her up to gain some confidence.

“But at the end of the day, that was some bulls—. We came to the spot. Folks was chilling. Nobody did nothing to nobody. I didn’t go out of my way to bother anybody or come to somewhere uninvited. I never came somewhere uninvited.”

Smith then shared more information and what she says happened at a party during the WNBA All-Star break, which may have led to Carrington’s bizarre social media post.

Regardless of where the truth lies, no one expected this beef between exes NaLyssa Smith and DiJonai Carrington to appear out of thin air on a Sunday morning during the WNBA All-Star break.

By the way, the Chicago Sky and Las Vegas Aces, NaLyssa Smith’s team, meet on Saturday, Aug.1, and Carrington, who has been out all season with a foot injury, is expected to play. Get your popcorn ready.
