For a number of years, NASCAR video games were consider among the best in the sports world.

But when EA Sports stopped developing the games in 2009, the quality quickly fell off.

Fans lamented the lack of realism and poor quality and when Motorsport Games took over production in 2016, that slide only continued.

It got so bad that after NASCAR 21: Ignition was released in October of 2021, the sport just stopped producing games altogether.

There was no new NASCAR game in 2022, and there will be no new NASCAR game in 2023.

Instead, fans began to turn to the online racing simulator platform, iRacing. iRacing not only provided a more realistic feel and look, it also provided sim racing for several different types of cars, tracks and series.

But now it appears that fans can have the best of both worlds.

Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal reports that iRacing has acquired the rights to NASCAR’s console video game rights.

“iRacing has acquired NASCAR’s console video game license from Motorsport Games in the biggest shakeup to the sport’s gaming space in nearly a decade,” Stern writes. “The agreement will be announced later this morning after being finalized in recent weeks by NASCAR Team Properties, Massachusetts-based iRacing and Miami-based Motorsport Games.”

Stern reports that iRacing intends to release its first console video game in 2025. So fans will still have to wait a little while.

But they didn’t seem too upset about that part.

This is HUGEEEEEEEE!!! NASCAR console gamers are about to be in for a treat,” @MikeConti5 wrote on Twitter.

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD ITS FINALLY HAPPENING,” said @EquateRadiant.

And that was just the beginning.

Our long national nightmare is almost over,” said @John_Mahhafey6.

Oh my God I could cry right now we’re finally free,” @Michaellongacre claimed.

Go crazy, NASCAR fans. The days of having high level games again are just around the corner.
