When it comes to thinking on its feet, NASCAR has not always had the best reputation.

But it earned the praise of fans of drivers alike on Saturday by making a big change to its opening even of the season.

NASCAR announced Saturday afternoon that the exhibition Clash at the Coliseum would be moved from Sunday night to Saturday night in order to accommodate for expected inclement weather.

The series initially planned to race on Sunday evening, with practice and heat races planned for Saturday afternoon.

NASCAR made the decision recently to allow fans to attend the two Saturday sessions for free without a ticket.

But with the changes to the schedule, NASCAR made an even bigger, bolder move. Saturday’s race will now be free to all attendees, regardless of whether or not they have a ticket.

NASCAR COO Steve O’Donnell acknowledged that the series is likely to take a big financial hit from the move. But that didn’t stop drivers and fans alike for praising the bold move.

NASCAR doesn’t often get big PR wins. But this was one that they knocked all the way out of the park.
