“America’s Sweethearts” are coming to Netflix.

On Thursday, the streaming service announced that it will be releasing an unscripted reality series featuring the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders.

Titled America’s Sweethearts: The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, the reality show will be piloted by Emmy Award-winning director Greg Whiteley with One Potato Productions and Boardwalk Pictures (the team behind Cheer and Last Chance U).

“The kind of access and creative freedom we need to make the kind of work we want to make is not easy to come by — especially when dealing with a brand as large as the Dallas Cowboys,” Whiteley told Netflix. “To their infinite credit, the Cowboys offered unfettered access for the year we filmed the DCC and left us alone. The result is an authentic portrait of one of the most storied and beloved institutions we have in American pop culture.”

If this sounds a lot like Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team, which aired on CMT from 2006 to 2021 that’s because it is very similar, if not identical. In fact, when CMT canceled Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team it was reportedly being shopped to other media outlets.

“Making the squad is no easy feat: In fact, even veterans have to try out every single year. For those who do secure a spot on the team, it’s often just the beginning,” a press release announcing the new show revealed.

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team followed the auditioning process for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders sounds like it will be following a similar format.

“We went into this understanding that the opportunity to transparently share the journey of our season, and the emotions, challenges, and joy experienced along the way, is exactly what our fans and viewers would want,” said Charlotte Jones, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president, chief brand officer, and Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders president.

Ho official release date was given, just that the show will be premiering sometime during this coming summer.
