Around Noon on Wednesday, November 9, news broke that the Brooklyn Nets — following the firing of Hall of Fame point guard — had hired Jacque Vaughn as their new head coach.
The team’s decision to hire Vaughn comes after weeks of speculation that the team was going to hire Ime Udoka, the Boston Celtics head coach that is currently suspended from the team.
Vaughn certainly has quite the mess to clean up as the 4-7 Nets are not only in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, but controversial point guard Kyrie Irving is indefinitely suspended as a result of his recent antisemitic rhetoric.

Good. Here's hoping he got a legit multi-year commitment to deal with all of this, too. https://t.co/keWYM18cIE

Vaughn, 47-years-old, was taken by the Utah Jazz with the 27th overall pick in the 1997 draft and went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA until 2009. During his time as a player, Vaughn played for the Jazz, Atlanta Hawks, Orlando Magic, New Jersey Nets, and San Antonio Spurs.
The former point guard then began his coaching career in arguably the ideal place — as an assistant to Gregg Popovich on the San Antonio Spurs from 2010 to 2012. Vaughn then spent three years with the Orlando Magic before landing with the Nets in 2016.
