The New England Patriots plan on having a fresh start at quarterback.

For the past week, it’s been clear from various reports that the team is moving on from Mac Jones and want to draft a quarterback at the three spot and are expecting to take either Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels, who they believe will be available after Caleb Williams goes #1 overall.

According to a report from Mark Daniels of MassLive, the Pats intend to sign a veteran QB and are in no rush to start whichever QB they end up drafting.

Drafting a signal caller is only one step in this process. According to a source, the Patriots plan on signing a veteran free agent quarterback, too. The team is in no rush to start a rookie immediately and could play that veteran if they think it would benefit the younger quarterback to sit for a season.

For the Patriots, several dominos must fall before they know who their starting quarterback will be. If the team selects Daniels or Maye and deems them ready, the rookie would start. But this is a process that this new Patriots brass isn’t going to rush.

As for Jones, the team is reportedly trying to trade him, and it’s believed they could get a fourth or fifth-round pick for him.

It seems like the Pats are back in rebuild mode after parting ways with Bill Belichick earlier this offseason.
