A rough season for the New York Jets offense just got worse.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Rich Cimini, New York Jets wide receivers coach Miles Austin has been suspended for violating the NFL’s gambling policy.

Schefter also added that Austin is appealing the suspension.
Miles Austin is appealing that suspension. The league will have no further comment until that appeal has been resolved.

Unlike Calvin Ridley’s suspension that has kept him out for all of this season, Miles Austin’s suspension hasn’t come because he was betting on NFL games, but because he was betting on other sports, which violates the gambling policy for NFL personnel.
There’s no indication that Miles Austin bet on NFL games as a coach but bet on other sports which violates NFL personnel gambling policy, per the source.

Schefter and Cimini also reported that the suspension will be for a year if the 2-time Pro Bowler doesn’t win his appeal.
Term update: Jets WR coach Miles Austin is being suspended for violating the league’s gambling policy for a minimum of a year, pending the appeal, per me and @RichCimini.

The NFL really needs to fix their gambling policies. Many believed that to be the case when they decided Calvin Ridley should lose a year of his career for betting on football games while he was away from the sport trying to address his mental health.
It’s even more apparent now. It is absolutely ridiculous to suspend a coach for betting on another sport when the league is making so much money on their deals with sportsbooks.
With sports gambling becoming more and more popular around the country, the NFL needs to hurry up and figure out how to coexist with it in a reasonable way.
