NFL Fans Are Roasting The New York Jets For Making An Absolutely Hilarious Coaching Hire

The New York Jets had a relatively successful 2022 NFL season.

But you wouldn’t know it if you looked at everything swirling around the Jets in the offseason.

Head coach Robert Saleh improved New York from 4-13 in his first season in charge to 7-10 in year two. In fact, the Jets still have playoff aspirations with two weeks remaining in the season.

But ultimately, the Jets missed the playoffs for the 12th consecutive season. That’s the longest running streak in the NFL by five years over the Denver Broncos.

Much of the talk in the offseason has been about how New York can improve its absolutely putrid offense. Part of that equation is replacing quarterback Zach Wilson, whom owner Woody Johnson recently slammed.

Another step in that equation is replacing offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. The Jets fired LaFleur, whose offense was among the worst in the league in both yards and points per game, last month.

Fans in New York were happy to see LaFleur go. That is, until they saw his replacement.

The Jets hired disgraced former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett as LaFleur’s replacement. Not only was Hackett a disaster in Denver, but his numbers as an offensive coordinator are far from inspiring.

Surely it couldn’t get worse, right?

Not so fast.

The Jets turned heads on Monday morning when they hired former Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing as their new pass game coordinator, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Downing, who is most notable for a DUI arrest this past season, over the league’s 30th-ranked passing offense in 2022.

Things weren’t much better in Downing’s first year, when he had AJ Brown and a healthy Ryan Tannehill. Tennessee ranked 24th in the league with 201.1 pass yards per game.

Fans were baffled by the move.

Poor Jets fans. You all deserve better than this.
