Former NFL Player Death Under Police Investigation

It appears that the death of former NFL wide receiver, Mike Williams, is being looked into by the Tampa Police.

The Tampa Bay Times reports, that the police is investigating and looking into the circumstances surrounding the Williams death, who previously played for the Buccaneers and the Bills.

Williams passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital on September.

The investigation began after statements from the mother of Williams’ daughter and from Williams’ grandmother, who claim that they had heard someone had provided Williams with Percocet, a prescription opioid painkiller, on the day he went into cardiac arrest.

The Tampa police issued an email response to the report, saying, “The nature of the crime is under review.”

The exact cause of Mike Williams’ death remains uncertain. Chris Wilkerson, spokesperson for the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office, stated that his cause of death is “pending further study.” An initial case summary cannot be released due to the ongoing criminal investigation.

The hospital didn’t comment on Williams’ case, citing patient privacy laws, per the Tampa Bay times.

The report says that the investigation into Mike Williams’ death is ongoing.

Originally a 4th round pick in the 2010 NFL draft, Williams led the Buccaneers in receiving yards with 964 and scored 11 touchdowns as a rookie.
