The NFL is reacting to the Eagles’ medical staff’s handling of Jalen Hurts’ medical emergency.
Nearly two weeks ago, Hurts was cleated in the leg and suffered a calf injury before the team’s London game against the Jaguars.
After arriving in London, the Eagles medical staff detected a superficial blood clot in Hurts’ calf but let him play.
Hurts then played and flew back to the U.S. with the superficial clot. Days after returning, further testing revealed that the blood clot had traveled to both lungs, forcing him to sit out for the rest of the season.
On Monday, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was grilled by reporters about the decision to have Hurts travel back to the U.S. from London with the superficial blood clots.
“Again I’m not a medical expert, we get medical information form our guys. We always put the players’ health first and foremost in every situation.”
“Guys I’ve addressed, the medical experts are there, and I think I’ve answered this question multiple times.”

The NFL has concluded that the process surrounding Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts being cleared to play in Week 5 with a superficial blood clot “was handled appropriately,” a league source tells The Athletic.
The source, speaking to The Athletic on the condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the matter publicly, says the NFL will not issue any punishment to the Eagles for its handling of the medical process, or for Hurts not being given an injury designation ahead of the game.
