  • The ‘favorites’ were 10-4 in Week 5 of the NFL season (8-6 ATS) which was great for gamblers and particularly brutal for some sportsbooks
  • Several gamblers placed huge six figure bets on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys continue to be the most reliable bet against the spread

Week 5 of the NFL season is nearly wrapped up. All that’s left is the Indianapolis Colts vs. Baltimore Ravens on Monday Night Football.

Most of the betting action has commenced with a flurry of huge bets and wins on Sunday. Several gamblers placed bets over half a million dollars on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. There were also a handful of other $500,000+ NFL Big Bets placed on Sunday.

John Murray at the SuperBook at Westgate Las Vegas told ESPN Chalk’s David Purdum that Sunday “has been by far our worst Sunday of the season.” Favorites were 10-4 and 8-6 against the spread. The Dallas Cowboys are now a perfect 5-0 against the spread this season.

The sportsbooks also got crushed by the Green Bay Packers winning 25-22 in overtime because action drove that spread to 2.5pts by kickoff. And according to ESPN’s Chalk, 87% of the money at DraftKings on that game was on the Packers. So there were some huuuuuuge swings. Here’s a roundup of some of the biggest bets and wins from Week 5 of the NFL season:

  • $600,000 on the Buccaneers -600 money line (Won)
  • $550,000 on the Buccaneers -550 money line (Won)
  • $500,000 on Eagles +3.5 (Won)
  • $500,000 on Broncos -1 (Lost)
  • $500,000 on Vikings -7.5 (Lost)
  • $500,000 on Bengals +3 (Push)

You’d have to be a certifiable mad man to bet $500,000 on the Broncos on the road, even if it was against Roethlisberger and the Steelers who have struggled so far. Half a million on the Broncos! On the road!

Here’s a look at more of the action:

I’m down in Florida and sports gambling becomes legal statewide here this week! It’s been a long time coming but it is going to be glorious to get back in on the action myself instead of watching from the sidelines for a while.
