Moncton Wildcats star Caleb Desnoyers is expected to be one of the first players off the board in the 2025 NHL Draft. But before he could get to that point, Desnoyers had to get through some bizarre interview questions at this past week’s combine in Buffalo.
One team that has become infamous for its bizarre draft interview questions is the Montreal Canadiens. The Candiens, who hold the 16th (via trade) and 17th picks in this year’s draft, famously always ask players what type of animals they are on and off the ice. But this year, they added an additional question to the mix.

Montreal Canadiens Ask Ridiculous Question Of 2025 NHL Draft Prospects At Combine
Taylor Haase of DK Pittsburgh Sports reports that Montreal asked players if they were stranded in a desert with one other person and nothing but a bottle of water and a baseball bat, the water cannot be shared, and the other person takes it first, what would they do?
That is…something else. I guess the Canadiens need to know how comfortable their prospects are with potentially killing a person.
Desnoyers, meanwhile, told the team that he would “hit a home run.” What exactly that means is anyone’s guess. There is no baseball, nor a field, so he couldn’t literally hit a home run. I guess that means that Desnoyers is just going to knock the other person’s head off? Either way, it’s a good way to answer the question without having to answer the question.
In a similarly bizarre practice, the Nashville Predators made players try to balance golf balls on top of one another. Potential top-10 pick Kashawn Aitcheson said he successfully completed the task and was pretty pleased with himself. Although we’re still not sure how exactly that translates to evaluating a hockey player.
