The NHL Just Suspended Tom Wilson For 20 Games For A Hit On Oskar Sundqvist And Hockey Fans Are FREAKING OUT

Tom Wilson may have a Stanley Cup ring for his trophy case, but he sure isn’t going to see any time on the ice for a while. The NHL just levied a huge suspension on the notorious Washington Capitals right winger.

This past Sunday, Wilson clobbered Blues forward Oskar Sundqvist in a preseason game.  The NHL Player Safety Department ruled that his hit-to-the-head was dirty, meriting a 20-game suspension just hours before puck drop on the Caps-Bruins season opener.

Here’s what that hit looked like:

And here’s what Oskar Sundqvist’s face looked like after Tom Wilson did what Tom Wilson does.

This is Wilson’s 4th suspension in his last 105 games, including a suspension in the Stanley Cup Finals. Wilson’s 20 suspension is now the longest NHL suspension from something that happened on the ice since Raffi Torres received a 41-game suspension in 2015 for a dirty hit on Jakob Silfverberg.

Caps fans, still riding the high of a Stanley Cup win, are reacting accordingly. The icing on the cake is that he’s getting paid $5 million a year to ride the pine. The Internet, (and Pens fans, of course), has jokes, especially considering Wilson’s history as a hard player.
