Former Jets Kicker Hits Game-Winning Field Goal Against The Jets, The Tank Is Still On In New York

It was a tale of two halves for the New York Jets against the Patriots on Monday night. With Sam Darnold inactive for the game, Joe Flacco started at quarterback and looked elite in the first half. He led his winless bunch of ragtags to a 20-10 lead at the break but threw an interception ahead 27-20 in the third quarter. New England took advantage of the turnover and tied it up, before its defense forced a three-and-out to get the ball back with 47 seconds left. Cam Newton engineered a game-winning drive and left eight seconds left on the clock for a field goal.

Nick Folk, who spent 2010-2016 with the Jets, came on and knocked in a 51-yarder.

There were a few theories that the Jets were fully committed to tanking for Trevor Lawrence, and it’s more fun if you choose to believe them. To make matters more interesting, Folk hit a game winning field goal for New York to beat New England in overtime of a 2013 matchup, and the final score was also 30-27.

With the loss, the worst team in the NFL continues its quest for the No. 1 overall pick and it drops to 0-9. Adam Gase remains perpetually on the hot seat and the temperature is not moving in his favor. With that all being said, his team never should have been in the game anyway and the visitors didn’t look great either. Now that Tom Brady is in Tampa Bay, and both Buffalo and Miami are playing good football, New England is in serious jeopardy of losing the AFC East since 2008. Bill Belichick’s bunch remains ahead of New York for now.
