The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame are rumored to be frontrunners to land one of the ACC’s most prolific passers in the history of the conference.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons QB Sam Hartman ranks #2 all-time in ACC passing yards with 12967 career yards. He only rails Philip Rivers who threw for 13,484 yards at NC State between 2000 and 2003.
Quarterback Sam Hartman has been with Wake Forest since 2018 and redshirted in his second year. He now has one more year of eligibility and ESPN’s Pete Thamel is reporting that the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in line to land the elite quarterback from the transfer portal.
Sources: Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal. Notre Dame is the expected landing spot for Hartman.

Needless to say, Notre Dame fans are hyped.
Pete Thamel’s report on ESPN reads:
Notre Dame is the strong favorite to land Hartman. The Fighting Irish have a need at quarterback with the transfer of Drew Pyne to Arizona State. According to a source, Hartman is seeking a high-end situation to keep him from declaring for the NFL draft and will take a week to evaluate all his options.
NFL scouts project Hartman as a third-day draft pick — likely the sixth or seventh round — so the thought is that he can improve his stock with another year in college. ESPN reached out to three NFL scouts about Hartman, none of whom believed that Hartman would get picked before the sixth round, if at all.
It is interesting that Sam Hartman would transfer for an ‘ACC adjacent’ school. Notre Dame will face Wake Forest on 10/28 next season which could be awkward for Sam Hartman. They also have ACC games against Clemson, Duke, Louisville, NC State, and Pitt.
Here’s what Notre Dame fans are saying about the rumored ties to Sam Hartman:
Guy enters portal and immediately knows where he’s going. No tampering involved from the always squeaky clean ND im sure!

Transferring to a school you face the following season has to feel odd:
Good luck to Wake’s QB1! Will still cheer for him every day but 10/28/23. #GoDeacs

This really would be a massive addition for Notre Dame:
ND just became a top 5-8 preseason team if this is accurate . I still would love to see Buchner play a great game on Friday . I think he has all the makings of a great QB with a good game plan and a solid OLine. Both were lacking in his two starts. ND fans careful what we wish 4

Sam Hartman’s latest Instagram post had the caption “Always and Forever… Go Deacs.” Proof that things can change in a hurry.
