Last year, college football fans were captivated by Oklahoma State’s Ollie GordonII running through, around, and by defenses all year long as arguably college football’s premier running back. But, he’s in the news for the wrong reasons right now.

It was revealed late Monday night that Ollie Gordon II was arrested for suspicion DUI just outside Oklahoma City on Sunday, creating a huge distraction for not just himself but for the entire Cowboy program less than two months from their opener against South Dakota State

“BREAKING: Oklahoma State star running back Ollie Gordon was arrested for DUI over the weekend south of OKC. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Gordon was going 82 in a 65mph zone. An affidavit says troopers found an open bottle of tequila and an open bottle of vodka in his car,” Local TV anchor Jonathon Cooper tweeted out late Monday evening.

Gordon is only 20 years old, so pretty much any alcohol in his system would be deemed a DUI under Oklahoma law. Given the facts laid out by police, it seems like he did indeed break the law here.

On the field, Gordon was fantastic last year. He had 285 carries for 1732 yards and 21 touchdowns and led the nation in rushing yards. While NFL teams are now reluctant to use first-round picks on running backs, Ollie Gordon could be a guy that is taken in the first round next April.

For now, though, he needs to worry about this off-the-field issue. It’s unclear if a suspension will be handed out. The first four opponents for the Cowboys are South Dakota State, Arkansas, Tulsa, and Utah.
