One NFL Contender Still Talking To DeAndre Hopkins

It has now been more than a month since DeAndre Hopkins was released by the Arizona Cardinals.

In that time, Hopkins has met with and gotten offers from a pair of interesting teams, but we still don’t seem any closer to learning who he will play for next.

That pair of teams was the Tennessee Titans and the New England Patriots, who both have major needs at wide receiver ahead of the 2023 season.

Before Hopkins took his meetings with those two teams, there were also rumors about him potentially getting interest from the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, but neither team has brought him in for a visit or made an offer.

It seems that could potentially change soon.

During a recent appearance on SportsCenter, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the Chiefs have remained in contact with Hopkins and definitely have interest in the former All-Pro receiver.

Hopkins heading to the Chiefs would make plenty of sense for both sides.

Right now, the Chiefs’ wide receiver room has a lot of potential, but not a whole lot proven options. The group will be led by Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Skyy Moore, Richie James, and rookie Rashee Rice.

Having Travis Kelce at tight end certainly helps and Patrick Mahomes didn’t need a true WR1 last season to have an MVP season and lead the Chiefs to a title, but having Hopkins would certainly make his life easier.

For Hopkins, the Chiefs would represent his first chance to play for a real contender after spending his career with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals. He’d also get the chance to return to posting big numbers with Mahomes throwing him the ball.

Right now the big thing standing in the way is that the Chiefs don’t have very much cap space, but that could still change if they work out a contract extension with Chris Jones.

The Patriots and Titans have seemed to be the frontrunners for DeAndre Hopkins so far, but it seems like there’s still a chance he could end up with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason.
