One Team Emerging As Destination For Ohio State Transfer QB Kyle McCord

Former Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord may not have to look all that far to find a new team.

McCord announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal on Monday and with 24 hours it appears that one team has emerged as a potential suitor.

Steven Sipple of On3 Sports reports that the Nebraska Cornhuskers have thrown their hat into the ring for McCord’s services.

“Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord has several schools in mind that he thinks would be a good fit for him, and Nebraska is one them, according to a source close to the Philadelphia native,” Sipple writes.

Sipple then states that Nebraska offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield met with McCord on Tuesday at an undisclosed location.

Satterfield also reportedly met with Baylor transfer Blake Shapen. The day before, he was reported to have met with Michigan State quarterback Sam Leavitt.

McCord is, by some measure, the most high-profile of the three quarterbacks Satterfield is alleged to have met with.

The former five-star recruit out of Pennsylvania powerhouse St. Joe’s Prep (alongside teammate Marvin Harrison Jr.) became the starter for the Buckeyes in training camp.

That came after a lengthy battle with former four-star Devin Brown.

McCord started all 12 games for Ohio State and flashed at times, completing 65.8 percent of his passes for 3,170 yards, 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions.

But he struggled against top defenses such as Notre Dame, Penn State and Michigan. McCord also threw two crucial interceptions in the Buckeyes’ 30-24 loss to the rival Wolverines.

Meanwhile, the Buckeyes are now left having to replace him.

Brown and freshen Lincoln Kienholz (redshirt) and Air Noland (true) are expected to compete for the job.

But most believe Ohio State will turn to the portal themselves.  Washington State transfer Cameron Ward has recently emerged as a name heavily linked to the Buckeyes.
