The Oregon football program has had a pretty good day today.

The Ducks landed a pair of 5-star defensive recruits today and they’ve added a big commitment flip on the offensive side of the ball.

Austin Novosad is a 4-star quarterback in the Class of 2023 who had committed to Baylor last December. Today, he flipped his commitment to play for the Oregon Ducks next season.

It will be a little while before see Novosad asked to take over the starting job for the Ducks.

They are currently set at the position for the 2023 season with Bo Nix returning after the best season of his college career. He threw for 3388 yards and 27 touchdowns in his first season in Oregon to help the Ducks to a 9-3 regular season record, a top-15 rankings, and a Holiday Bowl appearance against North Carolina.

With Nix still around, Novosad will get the chance to learn and develop for a year before being put under the pressure of leading an Oregon program that has high expectations every season. Once Nix has moved on, he’ll be competing with fellow 4-star QBs Jay Butterfield and Ty Thompson for the starting job.

According to 247 Sports, Novosad is the 86th ranked recruit in the Class of 2023 and the 9th ranked quarterback who will be joining the college ranks next season.

Novosad had some major college football programs interested in adding him to their roster. Aside from Oregon and the Baylor team he had previously committed to, Novosad had received offers from Ohio State, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, Stanford, and a handful of other schools.

It looks like the Oregon Ducks are going to have plenty of strong options at quarterback when Bo Nix’s time under center comes to an end for them.
