Former professional golfer Paige Spiranac knows a thing or two about showing skin on the golf course.
In mid-January, the former LPGA athlete revealed just a sliver of the blowback she gets from the golf community about esoteric dress codes. She was invited by a country club to film a ‘play a hole with me’ video but the club grew contentious after she arrived.
At the time, Paige Spiranac remarked “I know that my dress code can be a sore point for a lot of people. But I’m always respectful.”
Flash forward a few weeks and there was a dress code controversy in men’s golf. Sam Ryder finished T-4 at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. He was leading the pack at one point but fired off a +3 final round.
It was Sam Ryder’s pants that caused a stir. He was wearing golf joggers that showed a tiny sliver of ankle skin. Phil Mickelson even commented on it:
🤔
The Tour doesn’t allow shorts but does allow this weeks leader to wear joggers with ankle socks? Showing 4 inches of ankle? I’m no fashion guy, never will be, but there are some things I won’t ever understand 🤷♂️— Phil Mickelson (@PhilMickelson) January 28, 2023
Paige Spiranac and Samantha Marks came to Ryder’s defense.

Many of Paige Spiranac‘s followers agreed with her take on dress codes.
One person wrote “Maybe golf should be looking for ways to make itself inclusive rather than exclusive. Utilizing joggers for golf appeals to many people, contrary to what they might think.”
One golfer commented, “I wouldn’t be caught dead with joggers on but couldn’t care less what others wear.”
Here is that video referenced to above of the anonymous course:
