Popular golf influencer Paige Spiranac is back with another one of her YouTube tutorial videos. This time around she explains how to keep score during your first time on a golf course.

This is the latest entry in her weekly “Beginner’s Guide to Starting Golf” series that she has been running for several weeks now.

In previous episodes, Spiranac explained what to do on your first visit to a golf course, how to look and feel your best, what to bring to the course, how to use a driving range, the different types of grass and hazards on a golf course.

“You have your golf clubs, you’ve hit some range balls – now what? It’s time to get out on the golf course! Here’s everything you need to know for your first time out there. What is par? How do you keep score? Keep watching to find out,” Paige Spiranac wrote in the video’s description.

First, Paige explained that “par” is the number of shots it should take you to get around the golf course.

“Most people actually don’t shoot in the 70s,” Spiranac said. “Honestly, most people don’t even shoot in the 80s. 90s and shooting in the hundreds is where most people are at. So don’t be too threatened when you’re going on to the golf course for the first time and you’re like, ‘I’m not even near a 72.’ It’s okay, takes a lot of time and practice.”

She also explained golf terms like “birdie,” “bogey,” “eagle,” “double bogey,” and “snowman.”

On a par four hole, she explains, “Par is four shots. Birdie is three shots. A bogey is five shots and an eagle would be two shots.

“On a par five, a five would be a par,” Paige Spiranac continued. “A four would be a birdie. A three would be an eagle. A six would be a bogey. A seven would be a double bogey. An eight, we call them snowmen or a triple bogey. And eight is always snowman because it has the two little things, you know, like a snowman. Very cute, right? Not cute on a scorecard. We usually don’t like snowman. We try to stay away from snowman, but an eight would be a snowman or a triple bogey. And after that I pick up.”
