Is there a bigger star in the golf world right now than Paige Spiranac?
Sure, you may say Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy, but the numbers don’t lie.
Woods’ Instagram page lists 3.2 million followers, while McIlroy’s lists 2.5 million. Spiranac, meanwhile, has a whopping 3.7 million followers on the platform.
The former college golfer, who led San Diego State University to its first Mountain West Conference championship in 2015, forwent a career in professional golf to become an influencer.
“So many growing pains. I was burnt out of, I wouldn’t say golf, just dedicating my life to something and not really seeing the results. With gymnastics, it was hard because I was fighting injuries and then with golf — golf is such an interesting sport because you can work out, eat right, practice and still not achieve your goals. That was something for me that I just couldn’t wrap my head around,” she previously said about the decision.
“It also went against everything that my parents ever told me because I come from two athletes. They always said, ‘If you put the work in and you dedicate your life to something, you will be successful.’ But that just wasn’t happening with golf and I was driving myself crazy because I felt like I should be achieving at a much higher level. … I had everything to be a world class golfer, but I just couldn’t put it together and I didn’t know why. It was driving me actually insane.”
But the choice has worked out well. Spiranac’s still one of the game’s biggest stars, and it’s easy to see why.
In her latest viral Instagram post, Spiranac explains how to swing a golf club “with a big chest.”
Here are her three recommended steps:
1) Stand farther away.
2) Tuck right (back) arm
3) Lay left (front) arm on jug
The post already has nearly 150,000 likes and over 2,000 comments in less than 24 hours. And who knows, maybe some of those followers even learned a thing or two.
