Despite months of negotiations, the Carolina Panthers and star edge rusher Brian Burns appear to be far from reaching a new contract extension, as reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Burns, a pivotal part of the Panthers‘ long-term plans, was the subject of extensive talks with the team management.

This comes after the Panthers made a bold move last season, declining two first-round draft picks from the Los Angeles Rams to retain Burns at the trade deadline, highlighting his significance to the franchise.

The latest developments suggest that the two sides have yet to bridge the gap in their contract discussions.

The 16th overall pick in the 2019 Draft, Brian Burns already recorded 38 sacks in four seasons, including career high 12.5 last season.

Burns also added 196 tackles, 43 tackles for a loss, 77 quarterback hits, 7 forced fumbles and 11 passes defended in 64 games played.
