French soccer club Paris Saint-Germain has all the resources to be the best club in the world.

The Parisians have money, a perfect location, and some of the top players in the world including Kylian Mbappe and Neymar (for now).

But while PSG has undoubtedly had immense success since being purchased by Qatar Sports Investments in 2011, its failed to reach the top of the mountaintop in Europe.

Part of the problem has been PSG’s inability to find and keep an elite manager. Huge names such as Carlo Ancelotti, Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino have all spent time in the French capital. But all left having failed to win the UEFA Champions League.

Most recently, PSG hired Christophe Galtier to replace Pochettino in July of 2022. Galtier had just finished a strong run at fellow French club Nice.

Galtier, like those before him, did have success. He led PSG to the Ligue 1 title. But he, like the others, struggled in UEFA Champions League play.

And now it appears his run with the club could be over in just one season, though not for reasons you’d expect.

Samuel Petrequin of the Associated Press reports that both Galtier and his son have been detained by French police over an alleged racist email sent while he was still the manager at Nice.

Global news outlet The Spectator Index provided more details about the alleged.

“You have built a team of scum. There are only blacks and half the team go to the mosque on Friday,” Galtier is claimed to have said.

Though he has still under contract with the club, PSG have already began their search for a replacement. Former Barcelona and Spanish national team manager Luis Enrique is the prohibitive favorite to replace Galtier. Enrique won La Liga twice and the UEFA Champions League once in four seasons with Barca.

He won the European treble in 2015.
