Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be looking for his third Lombardi Trophy at just 28-years-old on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday.

If he were to win that game, he would put himself on a pretty impressive pace. Only Tom Brady has won three Super Bowls as a starting quarterback at that young of an age.

To be honest, the only quarterback whose early career even stands up to Patrick Mahomes so far is Tom Brady’s. This is the Texas Tech’s alum’s sixth year as a starting quarterback.in the NFL. This will be his fourth Super Bowl appearance, and the other two seasons resulted in heartbreaking losses in the AFC Championship Game. Yeah, that’s pretty good.

That’s not to mention his two MVP’s, four seasons with over 4700 passing yards, and 219 touchdown passes already.

Already, the conversation has started as to whether Patrick Mahomes is the greatest quarterback of all time. That means that he’s being compared with the seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady, who is widely considered the best quarterback of all time. Of note, the two matched up twice in the playoffs, with Brady taking both the 2018 AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl LV.

Patrick Mahomes was asked about the GOAT conversation and the comparisons with him and Tom Brady, and had a very measured and humble response to it. Here’s Pro Football Talk with more.

But during his time at the podium at Super Bowl Opening Night, Mahomes tried to pour some cold water on any comparisons to Brady.

“I mean, I’m not even close to halfway, so I haven’t put a lot of thought into it,” Mahomes said. “Your goal is to be the best player you can be. And I know I’m blessed to be with a lot of great players around me. And so, right now, it’s doing whatever I can to beat a great 49ers team and try to get that third ring.

“And then if you ask me that question in like 15 years, I’ll see if I can get close to seven. But seven seems like a long ways away still.”

This is a good answer, though it may not always be the correct one. If anyone can chase down Brady’s seven Super Bowls, Patrick Mahomes seems to be the guy most likely to do it.
