- The 40 yard dash has given football fans a lot to talk about over the last couple of days

The NFL Combine began earlier this week and it has given football fans plenty to talk about. It seems like most of that conversation over the last couple of days has been about 40-yard dash times. We all thought we were seeing a historic wide receiver class run the 40 yesterday, but then found out today that some of those times weren’t as great a we thought.
Then the quarterbacks got in on the excitement. It is there that we got the video that dragged Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady into the conversation about the combine.
It started with Desmond Ridder, the quarterback who led Cincinnati to the College Football Playoff this season, running an impressive 4.49 in the 40 to lead all of this year’s quarterbacks. That led to the NFL Network tweeting out a video comparing Ridder to previous quarterbacks to run the 40.
The video shows him up against Marcus Mariota, Russell Wilson, and, for some reason, Patrick Mahomes. Even Mahomes was confused why the NFL felt the need to include him way in the back of the pack in this video.

I’m sure that right now Brady is really happy that nobody decided to add him to that video. Brady ran his 40 in 5.3 seconds during his Combine, a time that likely would have left him out of the frame as the QBs in the video finished their 40s.
It seems like the 40 might not tell us very much about quarterbacks given how Mahomes and Brady stacked up in the event and where their careers have taken them.
