The year was 2009. Bill Belichick was entering his 10th season as the Patriots head coach. Tom Brady was coming back from a knee injury in the 2008 opener that required surgery and shut him down for the year. And without Brady, the Pats were coming off their first time missing the Playoffs in 5 years.
Bill Belichick rolled out this hour-long speech to his players at camp about what makes Tiger Woods so exceptional. Then just a few short weeks later, the 2009 Tiger Woods scandal broke.
The latest episode of Tom Brady’s Let’s Go! podcast ended with Julian Edelman, Randy Moss, and Tom Brady telling an all-time story about Bill Belichick’s Tiger Woods speech and Randy Moss calling him out about it at practice:
Bill Belichick was laying into his players about how they party in the off-season and how Tiger Woods never stops grinding, which is true. But at that time Tiger Woods also had a LOT going on behind the scenes that was revealed after his 2009 affairs were exposed.
So when Randy Moss saw the opportunity to call out Bill Belichick in front of the squad he took it. And this is easily the most relatable moment in the history of the Patriots Dynasty. Players, afraid of a coach, find some hole on the coach’s armor and call him out on it while everyone on the team tries to choke down smirks for fear of running an hour’s worth of wind sprints if the coach sees them laughing.
Only in this instance they’re all grown a– men who make millions and millions so as Edelman tells is, the whole team started dying, laughing like crazy, and rolling around on the ground from laughing so hard.
One thing’s for sure, Julian Edelman’s got incredible stories and he’s damn good at telling them. Having Gronk on his Games With Names podcast last week, the two broke out epic stories from the Patriots vaults. Notably, they talked about the legendary ‘Figwai Weekend.’
