The New England Patriots have made a couple of roster moves ahead of their upcoming matchup against the New York Jets.

Coach Bill Belichick announced that the team has signed quarterback Will Grier to their 53-man roster while placing Cornerback and All-Pro punt returner Marcus Jones on injured reserve.

Grier’s arrival in New England comes after the Patriots signed and released quarterback Ian Book earlier in the week and parted ways with Matt Corral, who was briefly placed on the exempt list.

Will Grier, who was signed off the Cincinnati Bengals’ practice squad, was originally a third-round pick out of West Virginia by the Carolina Panthers in the 2019 NFL Draft.

He spent two seasons with the Panthers and made appearances in the 2019 season, completing 28 of 52 passes for 228 yards.

Regarding Marcus Jones’ unfortunate injury, Coach Belichick expressed disappointment, stating, “It’s unfortunate. Obviously had a really good rookie year. Explosive player.”

Jones, known for his exceptional punt return skills, was named a first-team AP All-Pro punt returner in his rookie year in 2022.

Jones also played 370 snaps on defense last season, helping two interceptions including a pick-six against the Bengals.

The New England Patriots will now turn their attention to their upcoming game against the New York Jets with Will Grier ready to serve as the third emergency quarterback on the roster.
