Penn State fans were not thrilled about the timing of Saturday’s college football game against Ohio State and Pat McAfee egged them on. He came out firing with a shot at Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff as soon as ESPN went live from Happy Valley, which invited the crowd to do the same.
They joined forces to bury the rival network.
Big Noon Kickoff, born in 2019, is Fox’s unique approach to its marquee college football matchup every Saturday. Fox owns the rights to the Big Ten. Rather than trying to compete with other primetime games on other networks, it picks the best on-paper matchup for the 12:00pm ET time slot.
Everybody in the country must watch Fox at noon to see the best Big Ten game of the week. The game follows the network’s Big Noon Kickoff pregame show, which is similar to College Gameday.
The Big Noon game is brilliant for Fox and ratings are through the roof!
From a fan and atmosphere perspective, it is not ideal. The Nittany Lions — fans, coaches and players — would much rather play at night. Especially for their famous ‘White Out,’ which usually coincides with the biggest game of the season.
However, because of Fox, this year’s (unofficial) White Out game is instead played at noon. The fourth-ranked Buckeyes are in town for a top-five matchup to kick off at 12:00 p.m.
Penn State fans are furious with Big Noon over the early start, so Pat McAfee took a jab at ESPN’s rival network during his scene-setting introduction College Gameday. Not only did he mock the timing, he mocked the amount of people at Fox’s set compared to the one on which he sat. It was not subtle!

The crowd also made their opinion very clear. They chanted ‘F— Big Noon’ at a volume loud enough to be heard on the broadcast at home. The Gameday desk was forced to acknowledge the chant because it was so prominent.

All of this happened on ESPN, which did not hold back on Fox.
Pat McAfee got it started. The crowd took over from there!
